Press Releases

Reuters financial data to be offered on Money.net

Tuesday March 2nd, 14:57 Eastern Time

Company Press Release

NEW YORK, March 2 (Reuters) - Money.net, which provides financial news and data free of charge on the Internet, said on Tuesday it reached a deal to receive information from Reality Online, which is owned by Reuters Group Plc (RTR.L)(RTRSY.O).

New York-based Money.net, which launched its web site on Monday, said its goal was to be a top-drawer competitor to industry leaders Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO.O), CNNfn, Microsoft Money, Marketwatch.com Inc.(MKTW.O), and E*Trade Group Inc.(EGRP.O). Financial terms of the deal with Reuters, one of the world's largest news and information companies with 485,000 users, were not disclosed. Money.net makes a profit from advertisers who buy banners or sponsorship buttons on its site.

With an explosion in trading online and mushrooming demand for stock market information, Money.net expects page views to reach one million this month and to grow by 10 to 20 percent a month, Chief Executive Harold Van Arnem told Reuters. A page view is registered every time a computer user clicks on a new web page.

Money.net, which offers delayed equity prices and data on mutual funds and futures and options markets, will get a live feed from Reuters, he said.

The new site also provides business news, earnings forecasts, company reports and allows viewers to monitor their portfolio. Money.net is a unit of privately-held Money.net Incorporated.

In 1994, Reuters acquired Reality Online, which provides financial news and information, analytics packages and other data to the web sites of traditional brokers and new online services. Reuters also owns Instinet, the electronic stock brokerage.

In afternoon trading, Reuters shares on the Nasdaq were trading 69 cents higher at $83.44, amid a mixed performance from leading share indices.
